Weimar's Neighborhood Palace

Weimar's Wijkpaleis, a place in Segbroek where the neighborhood comes together

In the Segbroek district, on Weimarstraat, you will find Weimar's Wijkpaleis. It is a place in the Regentessekwartier where residents, entrepreneurs, and social organizations come together to build their neighborhood. Here, space is created for ideas, encounters, and development. What makes it special is that the initiative truly originates from the neighborhood itself and is supported by the people who live and work there.

Weimar's Wijkpaleis shows how an initiative can contribute to connection in a diverse neighborhood. For Eline Keus is that exactly why this place is so valuable. She sees how differences among residents come together here and how a community emerges.

I think it is a very nice and beautiful place where you can form a community.

Originating from the neighborhood

Weimar's Wijkpaleis originated from both concerns and opportunities within the neighborhood. Residents saw challenges such as vacant properties and traffic safety, but also the strength of the community. 'This neighborhood is rich in energy, cultures, and flavors.' According to initiator Esther Geradts, that was precisely the starting point: bringing that energy together and using it for the future of the neighborhood. Not conceived from the top down, but built from the inside out.

A place where ideas grow

At the Wijkpaleis, everyone is given the space to share and realize ideas. Residents come together here, meet each other, and help one another. 'If people have an idea, they come here and we see how we can make it happen.' That can start small. From a conversation at the coffee table to an initiative that grows into an activity for the entire neighborhood. Such as shared moments surrounding events, where people come together and connections are formed.

Building the neighborhood together

What makes Weimar's Wijkpaleis special is that everyone has a role. Residents, entrepreneurs, and organizations contribute together to what happens here. 'We really do this together. Everyone matters.' This collective effort ensures that people feel part of something bigger. Ideas are given the space to grow here, and plans become reality. Eline and Esther are visibly proud of it.

Proud of what is created together

Since its opening, Weimar's Wijkpaleis has welcomed thousands of visitors and various initiatives have emerged, from neighborhood activities to new collaborations.

It shows what is possible when a neighborhood takes the initiative itself. Within Nieuw70, Weimar's Wijkpaleis is an example of how involvement and collaboration lead to a place where people connect and build the future of their neighborhood together.
