Valkenbos Culture Square

ValkenbosCultuurPlein, a place in the Segbroek district where local residents meet.

In the Segbroek district, the ValkenbosCultuurPlein has grown into a regular meeting place for residents from the surrounding neighborhoods. Activities take place every Sunday, ranging from musical performances and lectures to informal gatherings. In an accessible way, the initiative brings people together and creates new connections in the neighborhood.

The ValkenbosCultuurPlein shows how simple activities can have a big impact on a neighborhood. For Hein Peterse Is that exactly why this initiative is so special? He sees how people come together here and connect with each other.

Originating from the neighborhood

Initiator Rob Blokpoel The initiative started from a simple idea. Although many people lived around the square, they hardly knew each other. By organizing activities, a place was created where residents could meet and get to know one another.

What started as a meeting between neighbors grew into an initiative that now attracts many people from the surrounding area.

New life on the square

Valkenbosplein changed over the years. Shops disappeared and made way for businesses that attracted fewer visitors. As a result, the square lost some of its vibrancy.

With the activities on the ValkenbosCultuurPlein, the square regains a social function. The terrace and the events ensure that people meet each other and stay on the square longer.

Connecting different neighborhoods

What makes the initiative special is that it brings together residents from different neighborhoods. People from the Valkenboskwartier, Regentessekwartier, Duinoord, and the Bomenbuurt come together here. The diverse backgrounds and cultures lead to new encounters and conversations.

By offering residents a platform and meeting place, the initiative contributes to greater connection between the neighborhoods surrounding the square.

You can actually reach a lot of people through simple activities.

Proud of what is created together

Within Nieuw70, the ValkenbosCultuurPlein is an example of how a simple idea can grow into an initiative that brings people together. It shows that meeting and connection often start with something small. Hein and Rob are visibly proud of it.
