From typical working-class neighborhoods in The Hague, Berlage homes, and the green Cromvlietpark to the busy Goeverneurlaan and modern new developments in Laakhavens and the Binckhorst. Residents who have lived there for generations mingle with new inhabitants. A district with challenges, but also many opportunities. This mix leads to special initiatives that make Laak something we can be proud of.

GoedLaak is an art route in the Schipperskwartier, created by children from the neighborhood. It started with workshops and has resulted in visible street art that beautifies the area and touches the residents. The initiative arose from the desire to let a different voice be heard instead of the constant negative stories about the neighborhood. GoedLaak shows how beautiful and powerful Laak is and aims to make residents proud of their neighborhood again.
The real story of Laak, by the people themselves. Made in Laak is an online storytelling platform that shares weekly stories from the district via Instagram and LinkedIn. The initiative showcases how diverse and vibrant the district is by giving residents, entrepreneurs, and local organizations a voice. Stories about daily life, special places and neighborhoods, and themes relevant to the district.
De Stadswacht is a growing studio space, workshop, and artist community in the Binckhorst. It is housed in an old building that has stood in the neighborhood since the 1980s and has now been given new life. At De Stadswacht, more than 150 makers, artists, small businesses, and collectives now collaborate, spread across four floors. The disciplines range from music, technology, dance, and education to photography, design, repair, architecture, and automotive engineering.
