Hidden behind the stately facades and busy streets of The Hague, lies an almost fairytale-like passage that leads to a surprising piece of peace: the Palace Garden of Noordeinde Palace. Although the palace garden is accessible to everyone, few people know the 'secret gate'. An entrance that many passers-by walk past without knowing anything.

The Secret Gate: A Hidden Entrance

The secret gate is located on Prinsessewal and Molenstraat. You will find the entrance along a narrow path, hidden between old walls and lush borders. The special thing about this entrance is that it is closed with a door, complete with a doorbell. Visitors who want to enter the Palace Garden must ring the bell; during the day you will almost always be let in after ringing the bell.

A royal garden with historical roots

The Palace Garden, adjacent to the working palace of the Dutch king, dates back to the 17th century. Originally laid out as a garden for Prince Frederik Hendrik and his wife Amalia van Solms, this garden has undergone several transformations over the centuries. Now, with its vast lawns, graceful statues and shady paths, you can relax in the garden and escape the urban bustle of The Hague.
