Fred is proud of Scheveningen

Fred Zuiderwijk is a born storyteller, television personality, and proud resident of Scheveningen. "I've been living here for eight months now," he says. "And I love it. Scheveningen is simply a wonderful neighborhood."

Fred is proud of his neighborhood, and Badhuisstraat in particular. "I'm incredibly proud of it," he says with a smile. "It's a true example of how a somewhat neglected shopping street can be brought back to life. There's a buzz and atmosphere again, and I think that's wonderful to see."

One of the street's gems are the courtyards of the Lammers Foundation. "They were once built for the wives and children of fishermen who died at sea. Isn't that a wonderful piece of heritage?" says Fred. The characteristic lampposts are also striking. "They give the street back its old charm. This is what a street in Scheveningen should look like."

The love for authentic Scheveningen shines through in everything. "Technica, for example, I think that shop has been around since before the first bicycle was built," laughs Fred. "And those kinds of shops are part of the soul of the street."

As he walks through the neighborhood, he carefully examines the details. "I love these pebbles," he says, pointing to the paving stones. "I think they're fantastic. And what I also love are the green planters that have been placed here. They're a breath of fresh air in the city. We need that."

Together we are proud of The Hague
Within Nieuw70, we're collecting great initiatives like the one in Scheveningen. Initiatives by people who are making The Hague a little more beautiful. From residents who come up with something cool for their neighborhood and entrepreneurs who see opportunities; they make the neighborhood grow.

Because all over the city, unique developments are emerging that we can be proud of. A new neighborhood initiative, an event that brings people together, a renovated street, or a creative space where something beautiful is born.
