Sandro Mona lives in the Loosduinen district and runs a beach club in Kijkduin. "I'm proud of The Hague in general," he says. "A beautiful city behind the dunes. But what I'm particularly proud of is the redevelopment of our seaside resort in Kijkduin."
Kijkduin has undergone a huge transformation in recent years. "If you look at what's there now and what used to be there, it's truly a huge step forward," says Sandro. "There are beautiful new homes, a fresh produce market that's open daily, and of course: the beach. That's what connects us all."
This renovation has brought new energy. "Now that everything is finished, you see new initiatives springing up," Sandro says enthusiastically. "We recently had an outdoor cinema on the famous steps, which was well-attended by people from Loosduinen and Nieuw Kijkduin. And the Dixieland bands are back too, performing at the lighthouse. Things like that bring the seaside resort back to life."
The new Kijkduin also offers plenty of opportunities for him as an entrepreneur. "I collaborate with the Ouderenfonds (Senior Citizens' Fund) on activities that connect people. That's what I love most: initiatives that bring people together, young and old, from all corners of the city."
Together we are proud of The Hague
At Nieuw70, we're collecting great initiatives like Sandro's. Initiatives from people who are making The Hague a little more beautiful. From residents who come up with something cool for their neighborhood and entrepreneurs who see opportunities; they make the neighborhood grow.
