Ria is proud of Segbroek

Ria Becker lives in the heart of Segbroek, in the heart of the Valkenboskwartier district. She's called this place home for almost twenty years, and she's been involved in her neighborhood for at least as long. "I've been volunteering for about nineteen years now," she says with a smile. "And I still enjoy it."

In recent years, Ria has focused on Weimarstraat, a street that is slowly but surely regaining its former glory. "I'm really proud of what we've accomplished so far. We've created facade gardens, added a wine tasting room, and opened a new brasserie: Birdflower."

That French brasserie turned out to be a hit. "It's a real asset," says Ria. "And the great thing is: it brings people together. Residents from the other side of the neighborhood, where it's perhaps a bit more upscale, are now coming back to Weimarstraat. I think that's wonderful, because ultimately, we belong together. We are one neighborhood."

What drives Ria is her love for her neighborhood and the people who live there. "It's often the little things that make a big difference," she says. "When you build something together, you truly understand how strong a neighborhood can be."

Together we are proud of The Hague
At Nieuw70, we're collecting great initiatives like Ria's. Initiatives from people who are making The Hague a little more beautiful. From residents who come up with something cool for their neighborhood and entrepreneurs who see opportunities; they make the neighborhood grow.

Because all over the city, unique developments are emerging that we can be proud of. A new neighborhood initiative, an event that brings people together, a renovated street, or a creative space where something beautiful is born.

Do you know something in The Hague that you're proud of? Let us know!
'We belong together, we are one neighborhood.'
